Tom Sawyer, Treasure Hunter will enrich students’ appreciation for and understanding of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. The Quest aims to put students in touch with the fun and playfulness in the text as well as to give students practice with their writing skills.
It takes the form of a treasure hunt in which students break into groups and complete challenges in order to get clues. At the end is a final clue leading to a treasure. It can take place in any space the teacher feels comfortable allowing the students to explore. This could be a single classroom, a gym or auditorium, or even a larger section of the school grounds. Because it is site-specific, teachers will need to write clues that are tailored to the space being used; however, we have provided sample clues in the Teacher Prep section.
